I personally recommend the Kempinski hotel, it’s the best I’ve stayed in while visiting Dominica. It’s a beautiful 5 star hotel, resorts and spa. I was completely taken away when I first arrived by how luxurious and gorgeous it looked. I was received by a young man at the entrance who took my luggage and escorted me to the reception where I booked a room and was taken to my room.

I found the staff to be friendly and helpful during my stay and I enjoyed exploring the hotel quite a bit; the bar, restaurant and swimming pools were all fantastic and so posh, I was really impressed by the full service the provide. I cannot express how wonderful I found my experience there so I suggest you come down for a visit and treat yourself.

BEAU RIVE HAS BEEN OPEN FOR 14 YEARS

It’s located between Sineku and Castle Bruce. It compromises two cottages eight guest rooms, a swimming pool, a library and a lounge.

You can sit upstairs and relax with a nice glass of wine or cold drink, sit back and listen to the music or simply chill out at the bar.

The Kalinago People are very friendly https://www.yahmagazine.net/kalinago-people-friendly/ https://www.yahmagazine.net/kalinago-people-friendly/#respond Fri, 05 Jan 2018 12:54:03 +0000 https://www.yahmagazine.net/?p=2665 […]]]>

Kalinago People are very friendly

Take a trip to Kalinago –  you can pick a bus at river bank into town. The bus runs at river bank into town. The bus runs from Castle Bruce to Marigot, it will take an hour. Or you can hire a taxi if you wish. when heading to Kalinago you will notice how green the place is and very open, you will come across some small and big houses and also a house which is built on top of the hill, and some small and big house and also a house built on top of the hill, and some chat which is at the side of the road. Kalinago people are very friendly, you will come across Kalinago ladies making baskets, also some men too. If you fancy staying a night or two you can book yourself a hotel, it’s up to you. You can mix with the locals, go fishing or play dominoes.

I must say Kalinago men love their rum, straight or with a little water or soft juice. You can try it yourself, straight from the bottle. While you’re there pay a visit to the Kalinago chief who also owns a guest house; his name is Charles, he will be happy to speak to you. I must say there is no night club, you will only find some bars open on the side roads playing music. If you want to party, you must go to town or Portsmouth. The Kalinago people love their cricket which is played on Saturday or Sunday. It’s all dependant on the weather; if it rains a lot the cricket is cancelled. If there’s no cricket, you will see the ladies play rounders. There is so much you can do in a day – so enjoy, have fun and have a laugh with the Kalinago people.

Competition Winner:

Voters words of praise for some other drivers:

Richard George – Takes people to Grand fond, is a wonderful man. He has a lot of patience, jokes on the bus, and is a considerate and a good driver.

Hyrum Charles – I think if this competition was 5 years ago I would have said Hyrum. Bless that man he was so caring put himself out for his customers. From Colihaut to Roseau his happy persona made for a comfortable ride. They broke the mould when he retired. He shouldn’t be the drivers benchmark.

Fort Young Hotel

The capital of Dominica is located in the South west of the island. You will find lots of gift shops and restaurants, one of the best places to stay in Roseau being Fort Young Hotel. This well-appointed guest house looks out on the Roseau bay and provides a spectacular view towards the ocean. The Fort Young Hotel provides air-conditioned rooms, has Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi as well as duty free shopping.

The hotel is in close proximity to all shopping areas, in easy reach of banks, the post office, market and supermarkets. Virtually opposite Fort Young Hotel is the other hotel in Roseau which is called the Garraway Hotel. Other hotels are between 5 minutes and 15 minutes away. They are the Roseau Valley hotel, Castle Comfort lodge, and the Evergreen Hotel.

Madeline’s Carib Basket Making

Making baskets since 1973

Madeline lives in Sineku and loves meeting people. She has
been making baskets since 1973.

Madeline told me that she does not sell her
baskets to tourists she sells them to vendors who buy them in bulk.

She also travels to Guadeloupe where her
baskets are sold on the beach front.

Kwame – Jacob and his young people tour https://www.yahmagazine.net/10-2/ Mon, 25 Dec 2017 23:06:28 +0000 https://www.yahmagazine.net/?p=2483 […]]]> T wo buses pick up young people ready to travel half way round the Island. I was very happy when Jacob invited me to come along with the young people.

Thirty of them, all of them were very happy and looking forward to it, laughing and chatting away and also joking. One young girl could not stop smiling. Both buses stopped in Roseau town the young people got off to do their shopping. It took them all half an hour and I was surprised.

We left town to go to our next destination. I did speak to Kwame a bus driver, he said he loved his job. We stopped at Champion at Scotshead, where we found very nice beach, with lots of fisher men and also tourists who came to visit Scosthead.
Both seas joined here, one is the Atlantic and the other is the Caribbean Sea. All the young people got off to enjoy the day.

I spoke to a tourist who said he loved coming to Dominica he said everyone is nice on the Island and he loved meeting people. There is so much you can do in Scottshead, like going to Soufriere Bay, meeting the local and having a nice glass of rum punch. You can try the hot springs bubble which comes under sea, must say it’s nice, you can stay all day. It all depends on how you feel, all the young people decided to have a swim in the sea. An hour after they cooked a nice meal, a few hours later we all packed up were ready to go home.

I must say it was a nice day travelling with the young person and also meeting the teacher who put a lot of work in looking after them.
